Why is Entomology Important to Fly Fishermen?
Entomology is the study of insects, i.e. fish food. There are 8 categories of insects you should be familiar with. Midges, mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, terrestrials, scuds & sowbugs, annelids (worms), damselflies, dragonflies, and water boatman. The basic insect lifecycle starts with a larva (nymph), emerger, adult (dry), and spinner. By understanding what time of year it is you will be able to select a fly that best resembles the entomology in your area. Therefore, increasing your chances of catching a fish.
